Pyra Draculea

Hi there! My name is Pyra and I'm a cartoon-aholic. And a rock-aholic. I grew up on all the cheesy sleazy 80s hair metal bands then later got turned onto 70s punk in junior high. These come together in my art in my comics, sketchbooks, and paintings which I work on and show off here.

My life is infested with cartoon rats (one of my main projects is Ricky B. the Rock N Roll Rat, featuring a punk rock rat-man slogging it out in the low-levels of the recording studio biz) and cartoon brats (my other project, Noah's Archipelago, features stay-at-home-dude Noah Thorsen, who sings in cover bands when not shirking housework or butting heads with his snotty 8 year old daughter Ursula or his mother-in-law Agnes).

Today we're flipping through the small sketchbook I've been taking in my purse for the last year, especially when going out for coffee with my dad. Sketchbook Tour: Grey Purse Sketchbook: June 2025 - June 2026
Friday is for finishing, so I'll be inking pages from my graphic novel Ricky B. Goes to Sea every Friday until it's finished. (Well, I'll be inking a page from the first 2/3 of the book every Friday stream. The back 1/3 of the book will be inked off-stream so as to not give away any spoilers for the book.) I've been meaning to make a coloring book featuring characters from my comic Noah's Archipelago and today we continue inking it. The theme is the A-Z of Noah's past jobs as he regales his daughter Ursula with tales of all the various gigs he's had. Today Noah's telling Ursula about the time he was a reindeer minder at a Christmas village (the reindeer didn't care for Noah) and another gig he had decorating cakes. ... Cake Decorator & Reindeer Minder - Draw With Me: Noah's Jobs - Cartooning - [Live Drawing] ✍️🎨🦌🍰
Over the last few weeks I've been working on some bonus material to add into an omnibus book I'll be self-publishing collecting all the comics I did for my original webcomic, Zamo the Destroyer, which I did from 2006 to 2009. Tonight we'll be finishing up the last couple bonus cartoons for that book, showing/diagramming Zamo's "secret basement lab" that Zamo set up in the crawlspace of her pet human Georgie's split level house. Don't tell Zamo we're doing this. After all, how can it be a secret if the Cartoonist is putting it out there on the internet? ... Zamo the Destroyer was a fanciful semi-autobiographical comic about a megalomaniacal talking iguana and her pet human, Georgie, who was an artist. Zamo was kinda extrapolated from an iguana I had for about 10 years. Looking back on it, I can see a lot of threads both in style and tone that link directly to the comics I do today such as Noah's Archipelago and Ricky B. the Rock N' Roll Rat. I used to post the comic on MySpace back in the day, but it did run in print in Discorder Magazine on occasion in 2007-ish, and the comics are still up on a website that desperately needs updating. Later on, I turned it into a podcast (narrated by Zamo) that ran off and on from 2014 through 2021. Those podcast scripts will eventually be turned into a book as well. ... Zamo's Secret Basement Lab, part 3 - Draw with Me: Pen & Ink Cartooning [Live Drawing] ✍️🦎🖋️🎨🔬🥼
It's Monday, let's work some more on that Myles project, shall we? This week Myles contemplates buying a yacht: the Azimouse Nerve 42. But will it make him any happier than his little motorboat? ... About the book: a while back I used to post shorts of inking pages from "Myles Maarav's Pursuit of Happiness" wherein each spread is a scene from Myles' life and often the things going through his head that he'd rather be doing. And it was alphabetical because I want to spoof kiddie alphabet books. When we get through the whole alphabet, I will set this project aside and write a bunch of short stories based on the illustrations and then do another round of illustrations based on the stories before assembling it into a book and self-publishing it. I'm doing a variation of traditional comics process, inking with a dip pen and india ink over a non-photo blue pencil underdrawing on Bristol board. ... Myles' New Yacht: the Azimouse Nerve 42 - Draw With Me: Pen & Ink Cartooning - [Live Drawing] ✍️🖋️🛥️
Note: I dunno what happened to the stream. Suddenly it showed I had zero viewers but otherwise looked normal on my phone while my laptop crapped out, so I thought it was the laptop. Then an hour and a half in the stream abruptly ended... but then I see that a full hour of the stream vanished. I did restart the stream for a half an hour (this video) to finish from part 1 here: https://www.youtube.com/live/G7ypTWdyYlE ... It's Tuesday, so let's break out the markers and do some (or at least one) full color cartoons of characters from my Noah's Archipelago comic. Tonight: it's the October illustration and that means we're going trick or treating with Noah and his daughter Ursula. Ursula has already tricked her father into dressing up as a cow by telling him she was going as a cowgirl, then bait-and-switching to a Roman charioteer with Noah in charge of pulling the chariot so she wouldn't have to exercise to get her candy fix. ... These marker cartoons of Noah and his family were going to be for a 2027 calendar, but I decided instead to make them the foundation for a bigger "Book of Days" project I'd been thinking about for a while, wherein we go through all the holidays and observances and National Fill in the Blank Day's that Noah loves so dearly. This project will have 2 phases: first, we will finish our big monthly cartoons, which should take til the end of June 2026, and then the project will be on the livestream backburner for a little bit while I pick all the holidays to be listed in the book and do some writing and work on a different project on-stream for a couple months before we come back and do more illustrations for the Book of Days in phase 2. ...
