Hi there! My name is Pyra and I'm a cartoon-aholic. And a rock-aholic. I grew up on all the cheesy sleazy 80s hair metal bands then later got turned onto 70s punk in junior high. These come together in my art in my comics, sketchbooks, and paintings which I work on and show off here.

My life is infested with cartoon rats (one of my main projects is Ricky B. the Rock N Roll Rat, featuring a punk rock rat-man slogging it out in the low-levels of the recording studio biz) and cartoon brats (my other project, Noah's Archipelago, features stay-at-home-dude Noah Thorsen, who sings in cover bands when not shirking housework or butting heads with his snotty 8 year old daughter Ursula or his mother-in-law Agnes).

Today's short is a sped-up inking of another one of the bonus illustrations for the first comic collection book of my webcomic Noah's Archipelago: Noah is cosplaying as King of England (a nod to Henri Gascar's 1673 portrait of King James II). I'm doing a variation of traditional comics process, inking with a dip pen and india ink over a non-photo blue pencil underdrawing on Bristol board. ... This week we're beginning work on illustrating an upcoming short story book, A Year in Ratsville. The book has 12 stories—one per month—narrated by our pal, @RickyBTheRockNRollRat and present a variety of vignettes of Ricky's life throughout the year. Each week we'll draw one scene from that month's story. First up for July is "Jeff vs. Big Mike" in which Ricky's boss Big Mike butts heads with resident mix engineer Jeff over who had the better seats to see the Dalai Lama... who Ricky has, of course, never heard of. Later, Mrs. Mike shows up and interrogates Big Mike. In today's video, Mrs. Mike is enraged at Big Mike and chases him while swinging a heavy mic stand as Ricky and Jeff look on. ... Let's break out the markers and do a full color cartoon of characters from my Noah's Archipelago comic for an upcoming book project, Noah Thorsen's Book of Days, in which we pay tribute to some of those random weird "National ______ Day" observances. In today's cartoon, Ursula is observing both National Vanilla Ice Cream Day and National Sprinkle Day. ... These marker cartoons of Noah and his family were going to be for a 2027 calendar, but I decided instead to make them the foundation for a bigger "Book of Days" project I'd been thinking about for a while, wherein we go through some of the holidays and observances and National Fill in the Blank Day's that Noah loves so dearly. This project will have 2 phases: first, we finished our big monthly cartoons, and now in phase 2 we're doing a cartoon a week on Thursdays for bonus illustrations while I work on actually writing the book. Today we wrap up inking cast portraits for the upcoming first Noah's Archipelago book with a portrait of Noah singing on stage (and getting very sweaty under the hot stage lights). Along the way, I talk about the time my friends thought I was having some sort of emotional crisis on stage when it was really just sweat melting my make-up off, book plans and process, and why you should never try to sneak into the USA to gig without a work visa. I also give some of the lore of Noah's Archipelago, including Noah's ex-wives and how the comic was originally going to be all about Noah's former bandmate Glen. ... Sketchbook Tour: Canson Brainstorming Sketchbook: January - July 2026
Friday is for finishing, so I'll be inking pages from my graphic novel Ricky B. Goes to Sea every Friday until it's finished. (Well, I'll be inking a page from the first 2/3 of the book every Friday stream. The back 1/3 of the book will be inked off-stream so as to not give away any spoilers for the book.) This week, Ricky's awful boss, Big Mike, leaves on another vacation, leaving Ricky some time to start working on his submarine and get trapped in his own duct tape... except we're interrupted by another one of those pesky intrusive ads (this time for Sticky Rat Duct Tape). Which prompts Ricky to finally what's going on with all the annoying ads in his book. ... The pages I'm working on in these streams are for my first graphic novel, Ricky B.
